One week can certainly bring about significant changes in how we view things. My firm belief in the transformation of Victoria Park into a vibrant international sporting center is a clear illustration of how our perspectives can evolve over a short period.
If there’s one thing that seems to unite us when it comes to governments, it’s their remarkable talent for indecision, often resulting in little to no tangible progress. We have the option to either applaud their apparent ineptitude, resign ourselves to waiting for the next vague public announcement, or take matters into our own hands by surrounding ourselves with like-minded individuals, actively working towards change.
Last Friday afternoon, HAL Architects reached out to me to discuss their proposal aimed at redirecting attention back to the Gabba. Given my recent inclination to advocate for the demolition of the Gabba and relocation of the stadium to Victoria Park, https://lnkd.in/gUQqV7SF I initially felt hesitant. However, after spending time in their office surrounded by a team of passionate, talented architects, all deeply committed to achieving the best outcomes for Brisbane, my reluctance all but dissipated. That being said, as an architectural illustrator, passing up on this opportunity would be unthinkable.
On Monday evening, HAL shared their initial massing model, providing me with the opportunity to align the model within the preferred photograph. During the design phase, the possibility of a “Gabba 2.0” – Mel Pikos https://lnkd.in/g5t7EnjH was considered. However, due to constraints posed by the Cross River Rail infrastructure and site limitations, they ultimately decided to pursue the demolition of the Gabba in favor of an ambitious proposal that integrates the iconic Gabba stadium with the Brisbane Live entertainment complex. After two sleepless nights and numerous revisions, I am delighted to introduce the ‘Gabba Olympic Park’.
